Discover your Inner Compass

I created this meditation to help facilitate the work you may be doing for July's Monthly Soul Reading. This will work even if you aren't doing the monthly introspective. Enjoy!

Prior to beginning:

  • Create a quiet space where you will be uninterrupted
  • Clear yourself and space
  • Protect Yourself
  • Ground Yourself

Note: Some of you may not be visualizers. That’s ok. If you aren’t “seeing”, don’t panic. Take note of what it would feel like if you were on this journey or perhaps just imagine what you think it would be like. Your brain will create something—a feeling or an idea or a hint. Don’t judge. Just go with whatever you are getting.

Take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. Focus on breathing in and out, in and out, until you feel the tension drain from your body and into the ground. Once you have centered yourself, imagine you are standing barefoot in the middle of a great field filled with wildflowers, the sun shining its warmth on you. Make a mental note about what the flowers are or what colors they are. Taking another long, relaxing breath, visualize a compass floating before you. What does it look like? What is it made of? What does it feel like? Take a moment to just observe what the compass looks like and what it is doing. Which direction is the compass pointed? If you haven’t already, reach out to the compass and cup it in your hands. Watch the arrow spin and turn until it finally settles on one direction. Make note of that direction. Slowly look up from the compass and look around you again. What do you see? Are you still in the field? Or have you gone someplace else? Take a few moments to explore, making note of how your compass reacts as you do so. Once you are satisfied with your exploration, you notice a chain attached to the compass. You hang the compass around your neck and it hangs perfectly over your heart. You can use this compass anytime you are looking for direction in life. It will always be there.

Take a few moments to come back. Write down your thoughts, feelings, or imaginings into your journal—don’t try to figure them out just yet. The goal is to get all the details down first. Take time to look over your observations. Did you go anywhere besides the field? What did it look like and how did it make you feel?

You can look up the meanings of the flowers or the colors of the flowers if you wish to provide more insight on your experience. The direction you noticed on your compass before the meditation ended could be an intuitive “hint”, as well,  to help guide you. Some examples of what directions can represent are:

North: Archangel Uriel/ Earth/Wisdom

South: Archangel Michael/ Fire/Beginnings

East: Archangel Raphael/ Air/Spirit

West: Archangel Gabriel/ Water/Conclusion

This is by no means a comprehensive list. Once you’ve figured out what direction you saw, feel free to research via the modality you feel most comfortable with. You’ll know the meaning when you read it. It will ring true!

You’ll be using your compass to open doors for you and get you moving forward. Feel free to visit this exercise at any time, but especially if you start to feel stuck.
