What is the Story of Your Past?
It’s interesting, so many people want to know what their future holds during a reading, but I think the most powerful thing you can do is to understand your past. Have you ever had a moment in life where someone tried to put a narrative on you—tried to tell you what your story was going to be if you didn’t do X, Y, or Z?
In high school, my friend and I got detention for not paying attention in geometry class. I remember my teacher telling both of us that we’d never amount to anything, if we couldn’t pull it together. Fortunately, we both had fiery spirits and didn’t let this teacher’s thoughts affect our stories. My friend grew up to be a wildly successful model and I have an absolutely lovely small business. My point is what we say to or tell ourselves matters. That teacher, during what was probably a long or stressful day, flippantly told us we wouldn’t amount to anything. I’m sure his intention wasn’t to put that story on us—but what if we had bought it? What if we had started to doubt who we were? What if that story followed us forward into time? How could it have affected how we moved through the world?
I want you to take a moment and look back on your past. Did you have any moments where people told you who you were to be? And did you buy it? This reflection isn’t about judging yourself—it’s so you become aware how easily we pick up stories that aren’t ours. Stories that aren’t true. Reflection becomes the tool of empowerment. This is why looking at your story is key to understanding your journey.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
- What is the story in motion in my life right now?
- Who is telling that story?
- Where did that story come from?
- Is this the story I want to be telling about myself?
- What can I do to shift or change that story into one that resonates with who I know myself to be?
Looking at your story can be a complex endeavor because everything we see, do, hear, etc can affect it. Stories can act like a record, playing your whole life—a quiet tune that affects what you believe about yourself and the world around you. Today is the perfect day to listen in and see what it’s playing.
Looking at your story is one of the key aspects of any Angel or Spirit Guide Session that I do. You can try to make changes or shifts, but until you know your past story and really understand it, you may not see the results you want.
